That’ll work then

Cheshire East council thinks that it can go it alone by imposing minimum pricing on booze.

CHESHIRE East Council looks set to go ahead with its plans to crack down on cheap booze despite the Government U-turn.

At the council’s cabinet meeting last month members agreed to endorse the principle of introducing a minimum unit price for alcohol – something David Cameron last year appeared keen on introducing nationally.

Cheshire East looks set to press ahead with its plans – despite the Government’s apparent change of heart earlier this month.

Cheshire East is designated by the “G” on the map below. Now if I had a supermarket in “E”, Kidsgrove, I’d be rubbing my hands with glee.

I’m seriously thinking of investing in a white van, and just sit over the boarder.

Fuckwits, the lot of them.

What if......

We're heading for a new ice age?

All we've be led to believe over the last twenty years is that we are all going to die because of catastrophic global warming. What if all those overpaid scientists are wrong, and we've been heading in the wrong direction?

I mean where is this warming in the last three years? Where are the drier summers (UK)?

The truth is that we have had three abysmal years in a row of wet and cold conditions. In fact the beginning of this year has been the coldest year in the last 208 years.

German meteorologists say that the start of 2013 is now the coldest in 208 years.
If this is true then our Governments, past and present, have some serious questions to be asked.

1. Why, with all the resources at your disposal, did you get it so disastrously wrong?

2. In light of this fact, will you now order the mass building of conventional power stations to cover the looming energy gap?

3. Will you now withdraw funding from those organisations and persons that have promoted and encouraged this myth of Global warming? (University of East Anglia, and the Chief Scientist spring to mind).

4. Will you you now close down, or at least re-order the Department of Energy and Climate change? And sack the head of.

5. Will you immediately stop the building of anymore Bird Mincers Wind Turbines, and insist that as the existing ones breakdown, no money will be wasted on their repair?

6. Feed in Tariffs. Will you remove these forthwith?

7.. And Finally. Will you make a fulsome apology for believing this scam? On the front page of all the MSM for a minimum of at least one week would be the very least you can do..

I'm not holding my breath.

I’m doing my bit to save us from the drought.

drought

However I’m contributing more CO2 to the atmosphere, (As if I care) by not having one of those new fangled condensing boilers (NFCB). Now my old fashioned boiler (Nearly new, due to getting it fitted before the diktat came in from the government, that you had to fit condensing crap), works by heating my water and storing it in an insulated tank. Works for me, as throughout the day I have hot water on tap. (Boiler on for one hour morning and early evening, with half hour top up at midday). (From what I’ve read and heard, most new installations do not have hot water cylinders. Why not?)

If you have a NFCB system that’s fitted now it’s akin to having one of those old fashioned Ascot boilers that just supplied hot water on demand.

ascot

Remember them? From turning on the tap it took forever to get a decent temperature hot water.

Well the new condensing boilers as fitted to my son’s and eldest daughter’s houses are modern day clones.

To do the washing up just now in my abode it only took about a fifth of a gallon at the most  in order for me to have piping hot water entering my washing up bowl. (I do the washing up, her indoors knows her place and does the ironing)

At my son’s house it takes for ever and at least three gallons before just tepid water issues from the tap. Five minutes later if you need to refill the washing up bowl, you have to go through the whole rigmarole again, FFS.

Did TPTB envisage this when they decided to meddle in things they don’t understand, all in the name of preventing the utter twaddle of man made global warming?

No wonder we have a water shortage if we use at least fifteen times as much water before it is hot enough to usefully use.

Wankers. (In my time as an engineer they were known as “non technical terrorists”)

Common sense. Irretrievably lost.

I really really despair. Why are these fuckwits even employed in the first place?

photo girl

Soon after taking a snap of his four-year-old daughter Hazel 'looking cute on the back of a vespa seat at an ice cream bar', Mr White claims he was approached by a security guard and told his actions were 'illegal'.

And you know what happens next. Yes, you’ve got it.

Mr White explained his daughter was the only person present in the photos but was allegedly ordered to delete them from his mobile phone.

The 45-year-old replied that the photos had already been uploaded to Facebook and so he didn't see the worth in deleting them from his phone, prompting the security guard to call the police.

Of course the police used their common sense. No they interrogated questioned him citing the excuse of the “Prevention of Terrorism Act”.

When the police showed up, Mr White claims he was questioned in an 'intimidating' manner by one officer, who allegedly said he had the right to confiscate the father's phone under the Prevention of Terrorism Act.

A spokesman for Braehead said the centre's security guards were alerted after staff at an ice cream stall became 'suspicious' of Mr White's actions.

I bet the ice cream stall staff might wish that they'd kept their noses out of it. I think they might see a drastic drop off in their sales.

I see that this has gone viral now as even the Beeb ran with it.

There’s even a facebook page condemning the actions of Braehead staff and management. The link is below. About 15,000 members so far.

I think I’ll take up photography, specialising in shopping centres. Anyone have a small child I can borrow?

UPDATE: The management have apologised to Mr White.

"Dear Mr White
I am writing to formally apologise for the distress that we may have caused you and your family when you visited Braehead last Friday.
As you may be aware, in light of your complaint and the public debate surrounding the incident, we have decided to change our photography policy to allow family and friends to take photos in the mall.
Once again, I wish to sincerely apologise for any distress we may have caused,
Kind regards
Peter"

It would seem that the power of the internet, can work to reign in the jobsworths that infest this country.

Are you deaf or summink?

They’ll try every trick in the book to revile smoking. Can you hear me at the back?

Teenagers could suffer hearing loss because of passive smoking, according to new research.

Inhaling other people’s tobacco smoke almost doubled the risk of impaired hearing among adolescents, it was claimed.

The levels of damage were mild but could be enough to stop them hearing properly in class and leave them branded ‘troublemakers’.

Notice the usual weasel words, such as could and claimed.

The loss of hearing may be explained by toxic tobacco chemicals damaging the ear’s delicate blood supply, the scientists believe. Even mild hearing loss could have ‘subtle yet serious’ consequences, said Prof Weitzman.

Oh and the word may.

I’ve been properly smoking for 48 years, so how come I’m not as deaf as a post then.

Why is it that they can’t come out with proper research that states categorically one thing or another. This sort of disingenuous clap trap is just a waste of taxpayers’ money.

It might be an idea if they did further research into how many of these adolescents had ipods jammed in their ears.

Passive smoking is the primary cause of global warming. Everyone knows that.

I’ve been driven to strong drink

alcohol-bottles-chris

Why you ask? Because I’m a smoker. (I expect hell fire and brimstone to fall on me from the likes of ASH and CRUK).

In days of yore, I was one of the many smokers who enjoyed sitting in a country pub, drinking good beer, whilst quietly and steadily puffing away on a ciggy.

Not any more.

The smoking ban put paid to that, as you all know. In those days I enjoyed a good hand pumped ale, wafted down with a lung full of the glorious weed smoke. It was a dual enjoyment. I used to visit a pub twice a week at least. Now, probably once a quarter. I no longer find the pub environment a pleasurable experience.

What I find sad is that the country I live in is becoming more oppressive as the years go by.

When fifty per cent of the population smoked, even non smoking households had crystal ash trays on the tables. Smokers were welcome and valued for their contributions to conversation.

The younger generation were taught respect for those older. Not anymore. How many times have you been forced off the pavement into the road by a group of secondary school kids getting off the school bus?

A job was something you aspired to and held onto with pride. In today’s climate you’re a mug.

Women were treated with respect for raising their families without working. (Don’t read that wrongly. Raising a family was hard work for her in doors).

Politicians were approachable and the majority were in politics to benefit their constituents. Mine seems to be on the gravy train to retirement.

The bobby on the beat was a man you stopped and chatted with. Nowadays I avoid the shaven headed, stormtroopers in case they arrest me for some trivial offence I’ve not heard of.

My schoolteachers were Gods. They told me to sit down. I did. Now they are so called, “Classroom Managers”. Managers in anarchy I suspect.

Health and safety was an individual responsibility. When it changed to a corporate responsibility after the Herald of Free Enterprise disaster it  became a “cover my ass” system, where people don’t bother to look what they’re doing, in the mistaken belief that they are safe because the rules say so.

The Dole was there to provide those unfortunates who had no job with the basics to feed and clothe those unfortunates and their families. How is it that a 46” colour HD TV these days, is classed as a basic need? (Scratches head).

Oh and of course everyone  is treated as  a potential terrorist when they just try and get out of this benighted land, with the intrusive  scans and metal detectors. Then again, maybe they are trying to stop too many high tax payers from leaving?

Sour grapes you may say.

My favourite pub is desperately trying to keep it’s head above water by offering any discount they can, but still having to adjust their prices upwards. Soon I fear it will fail like many others have done. Where are the Non smokers that promised that they’d be visiting pubs in their droves once the evil smokers had stopped contaminating their clothes with the foul, nay, child killing , second hand smoke?

They failed to materialise.

Now as a pensioner, whilst trying to post this under the candlelight caused by reliance on wind powered electricity, I’m forced to drink a large several large whiskies.

ASH. Sod you. And MPs. And………………………….

As a foot note. Could we expect an event such as happened in Norway coming to a place near us?  Most certainly if someone doesn’t take a lead and govern FOR the people.

Monday, 23 May 2011

That non event.

smoke cloud

The only Rapture I would have wished for at 1800 on Saturday night, would have been for Deborah Arnott, and her hideous cohorts at ASH, to disappear in an enormous cloud of nicotine laden cigarette smoke.

As long as it didn’t affect the airline industry.

Am I Irish?

I see that the Irish need another €24 billion from the EU. Of course I’m expecting our idiot Chancellor to jump in with another bail out with what he thinks is his money. Sorry George, it’s not your money, it’s my fucking money you’re going to throw away.

I begrudge paying the high rate of tax already. If you count Income Tax, NI contributions, VAT, insurance tax, and all the other myriad stealth taxes, I think you’ll find that the average man in the street is being ripped off to the tune of nearly 40% of their pay.

What I want to see is real cuts in this country. Not just a slowdown in expenditure. I want to see the 300,000 civil servants culled as promised, and funding of the so called charities such as ASH immediately stopped. I want a flame thrower directed at the quangos and the other teat sucking drains on the public’s money.

I want you, Osbourne, and those idiots Cameron and Clegg, to give us that Referendum on withdrawal from the EU that you promised, but have since reneged on. Why are we throwing money at this edifice that is enslaving us with it’s laws that our leaders cannot object too, let alone defeat?

And I should of course finish with that prat Huhne, who wants to switch the lights off by 2015 by adhering to his slavish devotion to useless bird mincers and PV arrays. You know, the things that don’t generate power when the wind doesn’t blow, and when it gets dark.

I’ve come to the conclusion that this government, is as left wing as the last one.

My final comment is: Get out of my life and give me my money back. You C***s.

* I actually like the Irish*

Am I being to harsh? No I’m fucking not.

ASH at it again.

ciggie

As they say. Tell a lie enough times, and people will believe it's the truth.

I was just trawling through their site and found this recent press release:

A study measuring the impact of England’s smokefree law on hospital admissions for heart attacks has shown that the legislation resulted in 1200 fewer emergency admissions to hospital in the 12 months following the implementation of the 2007 law. [1] This is the latest of a number of studies measuring the short-term health benefits of smokefree laws [2] and the first to evaluate the impact on heart attacks in England.

This has been trotted out on various occasions since the smoking ban came into force.

The fact is that there has been no significant change since the ban in 2007. The downward trend was already well established. Most likely for a multitude of reasons.

The simplest way of showing this is by the use of the actual data in the study:

Emergency AMI admissions in English hospitals

2002/03: 61,498

2003/04: 60,680 (a fall of 1.33%)

2004/05: 58,803 (a fall of 3.1%)

2005/06: 55,752 (a fall of 5.19%)

2006/07: 53,964 (a fall of 3.21%)

2007/08: 51,664 (a fall of 4.26%)

To me the figures speak for themselves. I think ASH should stick their figures up their pipe (I.e. the fundamental orifice in their backside) and smoke them.

Keystone cops anyone?

You really couldn't make it up.

It would appear that Thames valley Police are even more incompetant than their Home Office rating of "poor".

Maybe their could be a level of "Abysmal" added?

Officers were alerted to an armed raid at a Lloyds TSB branch in Henley-on-Thames, South Oxon, but instead scrambled to another bank more than 14 miles away in a different county.

Meanwhile, the armed thief walked out of the bank with tens of thousands of pounds.

"It's not us. It was the alarms fault Guv".

Thames Valley Police chiefs said an automatic alarm had sent officers to the branch in Pangbourne, Berks.

Come on. Pull the other leg it's got bells on.

Police are appealing for any information about the robber, who is described as Asian, about 30 years of age and 5ft 8ins tall.

At least they have given up being politically correct by naming the robber's ethnicity.

The whole story is from The Telegraph

More Knee jerk legislation

poodle

It would appear that every dog is dangerous, and we are about to be savaged by one, every time we venture out.

Dog owners may be forced to pay for insurance to cover damage or injuries their pet causes, ministers will propose today.

They may also be required by law to have a microchip implanted on their pet under Government plans to curb the use of dangerous dogs.

Another measure being considered is the use of Dog Control Notices for misbehaving animals - known as 'Dogbos'.

If you can be bothered to read about this fuckwittery you'll see that all political parties are jumping in to have their little soundbite of publicity.

And then again money is involved.

The price of microchipping and insuring a dog means that families could face bills of £100 and more to legally own a pet under the new rules.

For families on the bread line it's going to be "A dog is for Christmas, not for life"

The RSPCA is going to be busy rounding up the packs on our streets.

Olympics, Coming for a handout near you.

We all knew it would happen. The Olympic delivery Authority And that's a new speak of the modern age, if ever I heard one.)

It would appear that the cost of the Olympic Games in London is going to cost overrun again.

The Government faces the prospect of having to raid its dwindling Olympic contingency fund yet again, with officials announcing further cost increases yesterday in the delivery of the 2012 Games.

The Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA) warned that the next 12 months would be the toughest yet as the pace of construction accelerated to meet venue completion deadlines in early 2011.

The authority, which is responsible for the infrastructure at the Games, disclosed that its costs had increased by £21 million in the past quarter.

The Millennium dome all over again. Just at the time that we are broke. Why is it that all we see is open ended contracts by Government departments? The average citizen having the plumber in,  would never be held to ransom like these fuckwits in Governments.

Why don't we just give the contractors a blank cheque at the start?

Hair driers are the new terrorist weapon.

hairdryer

Well not quite. But our idiot Police "Service" seem to think so.

Anna Williamson and Jamie Rickersr, from hit show Toonattik, were filming London's South Bank wearing combat gear and armed with children's walkie-talkies and hairdryers.

But the fake fatigues aroused the suspicions of patrolling police, who stopped them and took down their details under terrorism laws.

I mean really. Are they just plain stupid or more likely trying to up their stop and search score?

Would real terrorists be going around like this in full view?

"Jamie and I were kitted out in fake utility belts, we had the whole bulletproof flakjacket thing, we've got hairdryers in our belt, a kids' £1.99 walkie-talkie, hairbrushes and all that kind of stuff, and we were being followed by a camera crew and a boom mike and we get literally pulled over by four policemen and we were issued with a warning 'under the act of terrorism'."

And how laughable

'we are holding you under the Anti-Terrorism Act because you're running around in flak jackets and a utility belt', and I said 'and please put spangly blue hairdryer' and he was, like, 'all right'." (Emphasis mine).

What has our country come to? Aaaaagh

And they came for the Motorist...... (Again)

specs

In today's Telegraph there is an article about how it would be good for us to have average speed cameras all over our Motorway Network.

The first weasel words are:

In a report published today, the Sustainable Development Commission has called on ministers to bring in the cameras to ensure that motorists stick to the 70 mph limit.

This alone would achieve a reduction of of 1.4 million tonnes of carbon dioxide a year, the Commission says.

I knew the word "Carbon" would be in there somewhere.

And:

Their introduction both on motorways and in urban areas, the Commission says, would encourage smoother more environmentally-friendly driving.

Yup. "Environment's" in there as well.

And bordering on the dangerous is this gem:

Other recommendations in the Commission's report include a call for all cars to be fitted with speed limiters to cut carbon emissions.

Yes that really will help when you find that the only way of trouble is to put your foot down. Result. Death and carnage.

I really, really, despair.

UPDATE: Of the 80 comments, there is only one fuckwit that thinks this is a good thing.

Break the law at your peril

It would seem from this article in the Mail today, that you really can be locked up for anything.

Labour has created 4,300 new crimes since taking power - including a ban on swimming in the wreck of the Titanic and on the sale of game birds shot on a Sunday.

Gordon Brown has been the worst offender in this unprecedented 'legislative splurge', with his Government creating new offences at the rate of 33 a month.

I especially liked this:

Causing a nuclear explosion - Nuclear Explosions (Prohibition and Inspections) Act.

More loony ones below:

laws

The biggest problem I find with this wankfest of new law making, is that most of us don't know about them until some Jobsworth comes knocking on our door to inform us that the nuclear weapon we are about to explode, will incur a fixed penalty notice. I mean how  many of us know that it is illegal to "Disturb a pack of eggs when directed not to by an authorised Officer"?

How also, do we know who the authorised officer is? Does he have an ID card with Egg pack protection officer stamped across it?

Wind turbine statues.

The temperature here is now -3 degrees and a high pressure system is sitting over us at the moment. What will those sodding monstrosities be doing right now?

Sweet fuck all.

And all political parties want to build more of those costly, ugly, and useless machines?

Shame on these islamist nutjobs.

That odious group "Islam for the UK" is planning to carry out a march through the town of Wootton Bassett in protest against our troops fighting in Afghanistan.

Islam4UK, a platform for the global front Al-Muhajiroun, would like to announce the launch of a momentous march that is scheduled to take place in the following weeks, details of which will be released shortly inshaa'allah (God willing).

The destination of this very special event is the small market town of Wootton Bassett, located 6 miles Southwest of Swindon, in northern Wiltshire; Wootton Bassett, is currently famous for its public mourning processions held in memory of British soldiers killed whilst on military service in Afghanistan; coffins containing the dismembered bodies of these soldiers are usually draped in union jack flags and driven through the town centre from RAF Lyneham, as a tribute to their ‘sacrifice'.

Have they no sensitivity for the distress it will cause the families of the brave soldiers who died over there?

Mind you, they only have had two comments on their site about this announcement. Shows how much popular support they have on there. I suspect the rest of that rabble are keeping their heads down.

SatNav, weapon of mass destruction.

I really believe there are fuckwits out in the wild, that are just trying to find more funding or plainly love banning things.

Fears that sat-nav devices may pose a risk to motorists follow research which showed that 78 per cent of crashes were caused by driver inattention.

Now psychologists at Lancaster University and Royal Holloway, University of London are to examine what they described as the "potentially dangerous effects of 'SAT NAV' in-car navigation systems."

Absolute Bollocks. I find using a satnav helps me concentrate on my driving, rather than having to look through the over abundance of distracting road signs, that have sprung up in recent years.

Sat-nav systems have also been held responsible for drivers suddenly swerving or turning.

I suppose the wife map reading and telling me that I have missed the turn would be better.

I just miss the turning and the Satnav re-routes me. The wife would be screaming at me to do a U turn.

Oh, and of course as I stated, we will be paying for the research.
