Last Wednesday I posted up an online poll on whether visitors to this blog wished to remain in the EU, or leave and become a self governing nation again. Below are the results.

Of course I don’t expect it to reflect the general population as a whole. The general public don’t get the time to read deeply on the rights and wrongs of the EU.

However it is food for thought. Even a forty percent less vote for leave would be a win for Brexit.

BTW. If you were one of the ten who voted to remain in this poll, I would be interested to have you comment below. Your views would be of interest to me.

Amusing poll results.

A couple of days ago there was an article in the left leaning Newspaper, The daily Mirror. This was an article by Yvette Cooper and titled:

'Stand up to UKIP': Yvette Cooper calls on Labour to fight the right-wing party

I patiently read the drivel she spouted and finally at the bottom of the article there was a poll. The simple question being “Are you considering voting for UKIP? With just a straight Yes or No.

So I clicked on yes to see what would happen. The result is below.

Maybe only three people voted, but I would have expected the opposite from a left leaning paper.

That poll

A few days ago I posted up a poll trying to gauge the response to smoking rooms in public houses. Below is produced the results as of last night. Now ASH (Action on Smoking and Health) would have you believe the opposite. When the smoking ban was introduced in 2007 they gaily came out with the statistic that 80% favoured this draconian law. My simple poll would beg to disagree.

My stats show that almost the exact opposite is the prevailing view. When you add “Most certainly”, “Maybe”, and “No I prefer to get pissed at home”, you arrive at a figure of 81%. The “No”, and “I hate smokers so I would boycott the pub”, just muster 17%.

Governments seem to have the prevailing view that they know best. I say bollocks to that. It’s my life and I’ll do what I want with it. I refuse to be a statist clone that religiously eats his “five a day”, eschews alcohol, and cycles everywhere to save the world from “Global warming” or whatever the new mantra is now. (FFS, don’t get me started on cyclists on a Sunday morning in rural Kent).

Incidentally I came across the best smoking shelter situated on the Kent coastline this weekend. Most of the time it was eighty percent enclosed, but with the provision that the windows could be ejected within seconds. Mind you I doubt whether the smoking inspector would have lived after being tossed off the white cliffs even if he had objected.

If I had my way, and was in Government I would stop the government funding of Neo Puritan organisations such as ASH and Alcohol Concern, and tell them to take a running jump.

Pub smoking poll.

Plain packs in the land of the leprechauns.

Live from thejournal.ie comes an article gloating about the introduction of plain packaging on tobacco products in Eire.

AHEAD OF WORLD No Tobacco Day on Friday, the Minister for Health James Reilly has announced that Ireland is to become the second country in the world to introduce plain packets of cigarettes, after Australia.

(No Tobacco day. Memo to self: Buy extra on Friday).

Minister Reilly said he was “confident that this legislation will be justified and supported purely by the fact that it will save lives”.

And of course there is a poll. And we all love polls don’t we? The results so far are nicely condemning of the whole hateful idea. Do follow the link and see if you can up the no vote.

Poll: Do you welcome the introduction of plain pack cigarettes?

That poll.

Just under a week ago I reported on a poll I had up in my side bar.

It asked a simple question.

Do you want to quit smoking?

Since then the overwhelming consensus (Now I’m starting to sound like a Global warming alarmist), has been the almost exact reverse of the so called findings by the Tobacco Control Industry.

The poll maybe somewhat biased, due to the fact that in my left hand side bar I’ve a large smiley with the word “Smoker” emblazoned across it. Maybe  my loyal reader (Hi whoever you are) doesn’t want to upset me.

However as far as I’m concerned the poll speaks for itself. The majority of smokers who read this blog, don’t want to give up. The no’s vote has actually risen to 86.89%.

So I’m off for a cigarette on the strength of it.

I’ll be taking down the poll in the next few days. So if you want to participate then please do.

Polling the truth.

We’ve all heard about the official polls that tell us that 80% of all smokers want to quit.

Well a week or so ago I put a simple poll in my sidebar asking visitors the simple question, “Do you want to quit smoking”.

There were only four simple answers:

YES, NO, NOT SURE, & OTHER. (I’m not sure why I included other?)

Now I really didn’t expect anything dramatic, as I suspected that as this blog is obviously pro-smoking there would be a bias to not quitting. However I was also expecting more yes votes polled, due to anti-smokers visiting and attempting to pervert the poll to some extent.

The total number who filled in the poll was only 123, but as I monitored over the days the ratio of yes’s to No’s never changed.

The Tobacco Control industry were right in the respect of 80%, but surprise, surprise the poll shows the exact opposite in opinion.

YES:               6.5%

NO:                82.11%

NOT SURE:  1.63%

OTHER:        9.76%

Obviously the Tobacco Control polls would have  couched their poll answers slightly different to mine.

“Yes I want to give up smoking to save the planet from global warming”

“No I don’t want to give up as I want to kill all the children with my passive smoke”

I’ll leave it up a while longer to see if the ratios change. Then I may start another survey on a pet hate of mine. Wind turbines.

The question asked will be on the lines of:

“Do you think that wind turbines are the best thing since sliced Birds bread”.

Give it a rest

As a smoker I keep reading that 60%, 80%, or 2/3ds of smokers want to give up smoking. At least these are the figures touted to the MSM and the government by the Tobacco Control Industry. What I want to know is how they come by these startling statistics? They’ve never asked me or anyone I know.
So here’s a poll which I’d like my smoking visitors to fill in. It’s in my side bar.

U.S. Chamber of Commerce seeks trial on global warming

The nation’s largest business lobby wants to put the science of global warming on trial.
The U.S. Chamber of Commerce, trying to ward off potentially sweeping federal emissions regulations, is pushing the Environmental Protection Agency to hold a rare public hearing on the scientific evidence for man-made climate change.
Chamber officials say it would be “the Scopes monkey trial of the 21st century” — complete with witnesses, cross-examinations and a judge who would rule, essentially, on whether humans are warming the planet to dangerous effect.
“It would be evolution versus creationism,” said William Kovacs, the chamber’s senior vice president for environment, technology and regulatory affairs. “It would be the science of climate change on trial.”
The goal of the chamber, which represents 3 million large and small businesses, is to fend off potential emissions regulations by undercutting the scientific consensus over climate change. If the EPA denies the request, as expected, the chamber plans to take the fight to federal court.

The EPA is having none of it, calling a hearing a “waste of time” and saying that a threatened lawsuit by the chamber would be “frivolous.”
EPA spokesman Brendan Gilfillan said the agency based its proposed finding that global warming is a danger to public health “on the soundest peer-reviewed science available, which overwhelmingly indicates that climate change presents a threat to human health and welfare.”

The chamber proposal “brings to mind for me the Salem witch trials, based on myth,” said Brenda Ekwurzel, a climate scientist for the environmental group Union of Concerned Scientists. “In this case, it would be ignoring decades of publicly accessible evidence.”

The proposed finding has drawn more than 300,000 public comments. Many of them question scientists’ projections that rising temperatures will lead to increased mortality rates, harmful pollution and extreme weather events such as hurricanes.
In light of those comments, the chamber will tell the EPA in a filing today that a trial-style public hearing, which is allowed under the law but nearly unprecedented on this scale, is the only way to “make a fully informed, transparent decision with scientific integrity based on the actual record of the science.”
