Hike in energy prices

danger of death

FE has just received a letter from his energy provider appraising him of price rises in August. I wonder how many people actually look at the figures given and calculate the actual rises overall.

To begin with the increase in electric supply seems to be a very good deal indeed. A 1% rise for both peak and off peak periods. Not bad I hear you say.

But we come to the gas tariff. A whopping increase of 20%.

And that’s not all. The daily service charge for gas has gone up by 26% and the electric by a humungous 79%.

I wonder how much of that is made up in green taxes?

I’ll give it a month to allow the cartel of energy providers to set their final prices and then goodbye Scottish Power.

Anyone else had rises in line with this?

The Lynn Rival update

I wrote some while ago about my thoughts on how the RFA Wave Knight failed to prevent the capture of the Chandlers. It would seem that the pirates have lowered their sights and are now demanding a lesser ransom. Down from $7 million to $2 million. There are those now saying the ransom should be paid . Read it here.

No, No, No. That would just encourage anyone to think that hostage taking was a lucrative business.

I think that the majority of those writing in the comments agree with me on this one.

However it would never have happened in the first place if equipment in the vid below had been allowed to be used.

All at sea

It's been a while since I posted so I thought I'd let you know what I've been doing.

Joined my ship in Crete, by the most circuitous route known to man.

Not much time to get settled in as we sailed to join the task group at the crack of dawn the following day.

After a few days of pissing about doing pointless exercises we headed for the Suez canal, and warmer climes.

After the Suez canal transit, we pissed about again, this time in the Red Sea. Why oh why can't we steam in a straight line for a change?

Of course once we eventually left the Red Sea we then had to carry out the obligatory anti piracy patrols. A waste of time. No pirate is going to sail out when there is a large grey ship, armed to the teeth, sailing in full view of the coast.

of course now we have left the coast I suppose they'll be out in force now. Oh well, cest la vie.

Headline: Sailor to firebomb government sponsored charity

But the old sea shanty What Shall We Do With The Drunken Sailor? may finally be sunk by a broadside from the good ship Political Correctness.

The government-funded charity Bookstart, which promotes reading for children around the country, has changed the lyrics to remove any reference to alcohol.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1131709/What-shall-Grumpy-Pirate-PC-childrens-charity-sobers-Drunken-Sailor-nursery-rhyme.html

Why can't they keep their noses out of things they'll never understand? I've always been a drunken sailor. Since when have pirates been grumpy?

In fact this so-called charity, Bookstart, are making out, that these murdering, scum of the seas, (Pirates in case you get confused), are just a little bit upset.

I presume that to guarantee the tax free government handout, they are towing the anti drinking propaganda line now being peddled.

They can fuck off. I shall pour myself a stiff one to calm down.
