They’re coming for you now.

wine glass

First they came for the smokers………………and I did nothing.

Then they came for the drinkers.

For all you drinking righteous who rejoiced that smokers were ejected out of the pubs and clubs into the cold. Well they’re coming for you now. The health puritans, having won their battle with smoking, are now going to use the same tactics on drinkers.

The slow creep of denormalisation by inducing a steady stream of half truths is slowly becoming a flood.

Drinking more than a pint of beer a day can substantially increase the risk of some cancers, research suggests.

The Europe-wide study of 363,988 people reported in the British Medical Journal found one in 10 of all cancers in men and one in 33 in women were caused by past or current alcohol intake.

Notice how the word “suggests” pops up in that first paragraph above. If they’re so certain, surely they would uses the word “proves”.

And from Cancer Research UK.

In the last 10 years, mouth cancer has become much more common and one reason for this could be because of higher levels of drinking - as this study reflects.

Notice here again they only use the word “Could”.

And if your overweight, they’re coming for you next.

Along with being a non-smoker and keeping a healthy bodyweight, cutting back on alcohol is one of the most important ways of lowering your cancer risk."

And from the Office of National Statistics comes this to prove that their stats about drinking more than in the past are just downright lies.

drinking percentages over limit 1998-2009

Now what shall I have for Lunch? Mmmm. I think a large pie and chips with lashings of salt. Washed down by half a bottle of Merlot. Followed by a fag.

*If any Americans are reading this. A fag is slang for cigarette.

A truly awesome Rant

A black american saying what he thinks about Islamic Fundamentalists.

However we in MultiCulti UK would never rant like that would we?

No. Because we would have the Thought Police breaking down the door in the small hours and dragging us away to a prison cell. Most likely because one person was offended on behalf of the “religion of Peace” (An oxymoron if nothing else).

My answer to Radical Islam is to state, in no uncertain terms, that if one more atrocity such as 9/11, or the bombings in London were to happen again, then the Islamic world would be taken to account. If our glorious leaders in the western world (and I spell leaders with a small l), had any balls they would quietly intimate that any such atrocity would be reciprocated a hundred fold.  I would suggest that a low yield nuclear weapon on one of the islamic holy sites would be the west’s answer. They might then get the message in those middle eastern countries, that quietly condone terrorism, that the west will not bow down to a religion that is living in the 7th century.

We must get away from this credo of national borders and realise that we are fighting an evil than does not recognise those borders. We war fighting losing a war that knows no conventional boundaries.

Maybe I’m too harsh on the fucking “Religion of Peace”. Please  tell me I’m wrong in the comment section. If you can make a good counter claim I will withdraw the post. If not, then you can get to hell and miss out on your seventy virgins that is promised in your fairy tale of child abuse, sodomy, rape, and a law that treats your women as chattels.

Mmmm. Oh well. Rant over.

I’m expecting my door to be kicked in,in the early hours.

UPDATE: Vid has been removed from Youtube as someone has complained  that it is hate speech.

Bird Mincers are crap. Official.

turbine on fire

A report out by the John Muir Trust is  now officially saying, what a lot of us  have seen to be patently obvious for some time. What took them so long.

Executive Summary

PRINCIPAL FINDINGS in respect of analysis of electricity generation from all the U.K. windfarms which are metered by National Grid, November 2008 to December 2010. The following five statements are common assertions made by both the wind industry and Government representatives and agencies. This Report examines those assertions.

  1. “Wind turbines will generate on average 30% of their rated capacity over a year.”
  2. “The wind is always blowing somewhere.”
  3. “Periods of widespread low wind are infrequent.”
  4. “The probability of very low wind output coinciding with peak electricity demand is slight.”
  5. “Pumped storage hydro can fill the generation gap during prolonged low wind periods.”

This analysis uses publicly available data for a 26 month period between November 2008 and December 2010 and the facts in respect of the above assertions are:

  1. Average output from wind was 27.18% of metered capacity in 2009, 21.14% in 2010, and 24.08% between November 2008 and December 2010 inclusive.
  2. There were 124 separate occasions from November 2008 till December 2010 when total generation from the windfarms metered by National Grid was less than 20MW. (Average capacity over the period was in excess of 1600MW).
  3. The average frequency and duration of a low wind event of 20MW or less between November 2008 and December 2010 was once every 6.38 days for a period of 4.93 hours.
  4. At each of the four highest peak demands of 2010 wind output was low being respectively 4.72%, 5.51%, 2.59% and 2.51% of capacity at peak demand.
  5. The entire pumped storage hydro capacity in the UK can provide up to 2788MW for only 5 hours then it drops to 1060MW, and finally runs out of water after 22 hours.

The rest can be found HERE.

Don’t break it or you’re doomed.

I hope that you follow these guidelines for your own sake.

Smoking out my MP

ciggie
Some while ago, February 18th to be exact, I wrote to my MP. Below is a short piece of it.

You'll have to forgive the loose format. Blogger is buggering me about.

Dear John Stanley,

Just a little message about how you and your ilk have badly let the old,
and lonely down, with your illiberal smoking ban.

Some of the quotes I have collected are taken from the blog site
of Frank Davis, and from those who have made comments there.
Frank has posted regularly and movingly on the subject of
loneliness and the smoking ban, and particularly its effect on
 older people.

I give you one example, of a poignant letter written by pensioner
Jane Daniel in the evening of New Years Eve 2010.

“I have accepted all of that and never smoked where I was
not welcomed to do so. I am now in my mid 70's and can
now only smoke either at home or in the open air. I am now
disabled (accident damaging my hip) and so can not get out
as much as I would like to.

So now I only smoke in my own home. This is a very lonely
existence and I would love to be able to go to a pub for a drink
occasionally. However, as a smoker I know that I can't do
this and enjoy a drink and cigarette in safety and comfort in a pub.

I accept all this and am sorry that my pleasure upsets so many people.
I wish that my life was different,  but after smoking for over 60 years
it is difficult to stop.

It really hurts me to hear that smokers are now classed as
disgusting filthy death carriers as I really hadn't considered
myself to be thus.

Now that I am all these horrible things I am glad that I am
nearing the end of my life. How cruel and malicious are
these people that have ostracised me and cast me out from society.

I am so sorry if my 'habit' has offended people and wish that I
had never taken that first cigarette all those years ago.”

There were many more of these sad stories in my Email to Sir John.

I finished it of with this:

And you think that you stand up for a conservative way of life.
You should be ashamed to the very core of your being. From being
a lifelong conservative voter, I decided that I couldn't vote for
labour light at the last election. IE the Cameron, left thinking big society.
I'm unable to understand why the party I used to believe in has
become so intolerant to smokers, and bends over backwards with
funding to fake charities such as ASH and Alcohol concern.

I would appreciate an answer that doesn't involve spin and obfuscation,
which is what is normally sent to us proles who question the status quo.
Are you man enough? Your reply will say it all.

Hint: 25% of the voting public smoke.

Your obedient servant(Not)

The Filthy Engineer

Now you would think that I’d get a sympathetic reply. Nope.
I get this cockwaffle following the party line.

From the Rt Hon Andrew Lansley CBE MP

The Rt Hon Sir John Stanley MP House of Commons
Westminster
London SW1A OAA
29 MAR 2011
Thank you for your letter of 2 March enclosing correspondence
from your constituent Mr Filthy Engineer of Filthy Mansions, Somewhere in Kent,
about smokefree legislation. The smokefree provisions in the Health Act 2006
were carriedout in free votes across all parties by large majorities
in both Houses of Parliament. This Parliamentary support for smokefree
legislation reflected the very widespread public support.
The primary aim of the legislation was to protect workers and the
general public from exposure to the harmful effects of secondhand smoke.

Medical and scientific evidence shows that exposure to secondhand smoke
increases the risk of serious medical conditions such as lung cancer,
heart disease, asthma attacks, childhood respiratory disease,
sudden infant death syndrome and reduced lung function.

Smoking is the largest single cause of preventable illness and premature
death in the UK. It kills over 100,000 people every year and a recent
academic study suggests that the cost to the British taxpayer is more
than £5billion a year.

ANDREW LANSLEY CBE

Note the first bit if disinformation in the second paragraph.”reflected the
very widespread public support.” Well I wasn’t consulted, nor was
anyone I know.

The second paragraph is more waffle not facts. Notice the phrase that is
used by the bansturbators of all colours.  “ increases the risk”. I would like
to know Mr Lansley how you can state that asthma attacks are increasing
and blame it on SHS, when the percentage of smokers has fallen dramatically
in the last 50 years.

What about having  a look at this study which I think may have some small
bearing on our health. What are you doing about that? Nothing.

As for the last paragraph even that arch antismoking group ASH (January 2011)
doesn’t agree with that made up figure of £5 billion..

Smoking costs the National Health Service (NHS) approximately
£2.7 billion a year for treating diseases caused by smoking.
About 76% of the price of a packet of cigarettes consists of taxation.

And as for the reply from my MP enclosed with that letter.
Just a note from one of his minions.

Oh well, time for a blood pressure pill, and shortly a large whisky or two.*

*And you too can bugger off, Alcohol Concern, if you read this.

What if?

If you yelled for 8 years, 7 months and 6 days you would have produced enough sound energy to heat one cup of coffee.
(Hardly seems worth it.)

If you farted consistently for 6 years and 9 months, enough gas is produced to create the energy of an atomic bomb.
(Now that's more like it !)

The human heart creates enough pressure when it pumps out to the body to squirt blood 30 feet.
       (O.M.G.!)

A pig's orgasm lasts 30 minutes.
(In my next life, I want to be a pig..)

A cockroach will live nine days without its head  before it starves to death.    (Creepy.)
(I'm still not over the pig.)

Banging your head against a wall uses 150 calories an hour
(Don't try this at home, maybe at work)

The male praying mantis cannot copulate while its head is attached to its body. The female initiates sex by ripping the male's head off.
(Honey, I'm home. What the...?)

The flea can jump 350 times its body length.. It's like a human jumping the length of a football field.
(30 minutes. Lucky pig! Can you imagine?)

The catfish has over 27,000 taste buds.
(What could be so tasty on the bottom of a pond?)

Some lions mate over 50 times a day.
(I still want to be a pig in my next life...quality over quantity)

Butterflies taste with their feet.
(Something I always wanted to know.)

The strongest muscle in the body is the tongue.
(Hmmmmmm......)

Right-handed people live, on average, nine years longer than left-handed people.
(If you're ambidextrous, do you split the difference?)

Elephants are the only animals that cannot jump.
(Okay, so that would be a good thing)

A cat's urine glows under a black light.
(I wonder who was paid to figure that out)

An ostrich's eye is bigger than its brain.
(I know some people like that.)

Starfish have no brains
(I know some people like that too.)

Polar bears are left-handed.
(If they switch, they'll live a lot longer)

Humans and dolphins are the only species that have sex for pleasure.
(What about that pig??)

Engineering as it used to be. Part 2.

shifter

Now where was I? Oh yes I’d just been accepted into college.

At first I thought that I’d be handicapped by the lack of Technical skills learnt at school. I was wrong. It was all the other subjects which I’d never even heard about that would give me the headaches.

Subjects such as Applied Mechanics. What an earth was a Shear Force and Bending Moment Diagram when it’s at home?

Thermodynamics, or as in our case, Applied Heat. Entropy, Enthalpy, Boyle’s Law, and a myriad of other mystifying terms.

Naval Architecture. Complete with (as one reader posted in the comments previously), Metacentric height. Along with Water plane areas, Knees, Floors, Ribs, and Bow and Stern (I’ve never understood why they couldn’t be called the “pointy bit at the front” and the “bit that trails last”). Baffling.

Electro technology.  Generators, DC and AC. Volts, Ohms (There’s a law about that I believe), Capacitors, Inductance, and much more. Is your head spinning like mine woz?

Workshop Technology. Simple? Oh No. So much to master in so few years. Files, Hammers and chisels (Bloody painful if you get that skill wrong), Lathes, Milling machine (WTF? Do we have to make our own bread now?), Shaping machine, Pillar drill, Screw cutting, Tap, Die ( bit worrying that one), and chuck key.

Surprisingly enough after two years of this I became pretty Au Fait with most subjects and was nearly ready for my first Sea Trip.

Lastly before I went off for a Life on the Ocean Wave all those in my outfit were required to undertake eight weeks working under supervision, in a Naval Dockyard.

Now those of you who were around in the sixties and seventies, will know how the unions had a strangle hold on industry. Of course this played into the hands of young cadets like us. I spent eight weeks in Plymouth mostly on the beach, as we weren't allowed to even pick up a tool of any description. We just devised a Rota system where one of our number clocked us all in and out. Worked like a charm.

To be continued…………………………………..Life as the scum of the seas.
