Climate "Change" again! A cold wind blows.

It seems there is some shift in the media over climate change. Both the Telegraph and the Mail are running a similar story about Global cooling rather than Global warming.

From the Telegraph:

The world could be in for a spell of cooler temperatures, rather than hotter conditions, as a result of cyclical changes in ocean currents for the next 20 or 30 years, it is predicted.

Research by Professor Mojib Latif, one of the world's leading climate modellers, questions the widely held view that global temperatures will rise rapidly over the coming years.

And from the Mail:

Britain's big freeze is the start of a worldwide trend towards colder weather that seriously challenges global warming theories, eminent scientists claimed yesterday.

The world has entered a 'cold mode' which is likely to bring a global dip in temperatures which will last for 20 to 30 years, they say.

Nothing new from BBC /Pravda though. Just this:

Scientists have uncovered what appears to be a further dramatic increase in the leakage of methane gas that is seeping from the Arctic seabed.

Methane is about 20 times more potent than CO2 in trapping solar heat.

Oh well. I wasn't expecting a breakthrough. The bear looks bemused though.

Now that the AGW story may meet it's demise, what else?

Salmonella in eggs. Nope.

DDT will kill thousands. The banning of this chemical has killed millions.

Swine flue. We're trying to sell our vast reserves of the vaccine.

Speed cameras save lives. No significant decrease in road deaths attributable to the cameras. In fact in one town that has recently removed the cameras the death rate has decreased.

Passive smoking kills. Not one person in the world has ever had that on their death certificate. (Source is WHO).

Alcohol is killing us all. Numerous studies have intimated that a reasonable amount of alcahol is good for you. (Fuck you, Don Shenker of "Alcohol concern").

Salt. We die with out it.

BSC and CJD. We're all doomed. Sorry we just butchered most of our beef stock for no reason.

GM crops. Haven't seen any two headed babies yet.

These scare are just the tip of the iceberg that have kept the UK in fear over the last twenty years. Please add your own to this list.

Weather Forecast adjustment engineer

Last week, due to the inclement weather, I kept the Met office forecast page, tabbed in my Browser.

When I first looked at 0800 the five day forecast showed no snow for the next three days. However, when I looked 2 hours later, at 1000, the forecast was for heavy snow for those next days.

Could it be that the "Pinecone Adjustment Engineer" had finally managed to make it in through the snow drifts?

Oh and I found this site on AGW which is of interest.

True Grit

Now that this Government runs everything from the centre, life in Kent in the next week or two is about to get worse.

KCC has quite admirably over the summer months last year, topped up their grit barns. Not only did they fill them for an average winter, but also added 50% extra just in case of a winter like this one.

Now it would appear that they may have to supply grit to the feckless councils who in the interests of their accountants failed to do the same.

As it is KCC are only managing to keep the main roads open.

Uncovered in France

I see the French have got the balls to make it a criminal offence to wear the veil in public. With all this Hooha about terrorist threats to the UK, how can it make sense to allow people to have their face hidden?

Women who wear Islamic veils in public in France face a £700 fine under strict new laws being proposed.

The amount could be doubled for Muslim men who force female members of their family to cover their faces.

Jean-Francois Cope, president of Nicolas Sarkozy’s ruling UMP Party, said the legislation was intended to protect the ‘dignity’ and ‘security’ of women.

He is set to file the draft law in the National Assembly after Mr Sarkozy said veils were ‘not welcome’ because they intimidated non-Muslims.

After all, many shops won't allow hoodies.

Harman fined

Harriet Harman has been fined for driving with undue care and attention. But why did the CPS drop the other two charges of using her mobile phone and leaving the scene of an accident? Could be the wiff of Keir Starmer be smelt here?

Watching the 6 O'clock news, I was interested to see that the BBC and the Met Office were trotting out their spiel about the AGW fairytale.

Mmmm. Methinks they are worrying that support for this fable is rapidly racing away from them like a skier down a ski slope. And maybe their jobs when they are tossed onto the bonfires of the vanities.
