Remember the dearly departed

Dearly beloved, let us join together to remember, and to mourn, the many victims of the War On Smoking.

Let us take a few moments of quiet contemplation to commemorate the ultimate sacrifice that was made by them, for the benefit of mankind. Some of their names will not be known to the current generation, since their demise happened many years ago, but most shared our lives until recently, and just a few are with us still, but not for much longer. Let us at this time speak together their names, that their memory may be carried forth to future generations who will otherwise not know of them.

Let us remember Truth, Justice, Fairness, Goodness, Compassion, Logic, Honesty, Tolerance, Humanity, Good Sense, Forbearance, Empathy, Virtue, Perspicacity, Clarity, Simplicity, Decency, Morality, Integrity, Rectitude, Honour and Righteousness.

Let us remember Freedom; of Choice, of Expression, of Speech, of Thought, of Science, and of Information.

And, as we humbly remember their names, let us also remember that those who sought in the past to erase their memory have themselves been brought to account – usually violently, and with much rejoicing!

Shot themselves in the foot.

From where I’ve been sitting in the last few days it would appear that the Westminster bubble of politicians can’t handle a potential new party. By that I’m referring to UKIP.

All three old parties and their greatest supporter, the BBC, have been using the old tactics beloved by themselves, of trying to use smear tactics on UKIP as these parties do amongst themselves.

What they haven’t seemed to realise is that the voters are now actually seeing for themselves, how bad for us, the EU is. Whether it is uncontrolled immigration, over regulation, or ridiculous human rights cases, the average man in the street is just starting to ask why are we in the EU?

The average voters are now voting with their feet, and in fact the mudslinging against UKIP is actually (If you can believe the polls) driving more to vote for UKIP. The man in the street now sees UKIP as an underdog that is being savaged by large attack dogs from the mainstream parties (and the BBC). The gentle folk of the UK hate bullying like this and are now leaving the mainstream parties in droves.

The LibLabCon professionals in Government can’t seem to get round the fact that the voters are tired of their tactics.

European Voting Intention (all certain to vote):

UKIP: 38% (+8)

Labour: 27% (-3)

Conservatives: 18% (-4)

Liberal Democrats: 8% (NC)

(Change since 2-3 April  2014 in brackets.)

It would be nice to see the people of the UK voting in the general election in 2015 with their convictions in the same way. Instead of the tribal politics we have today.

Prices.

Today I sat down to book our forthcoming holiday flight tickets.

One surprising find with the low cost airline I was booking on, was the costs. Not high costs or low costs, but very precise costs.

Outward flight: £139.37p.

The same for the flight back. Now I’ve never had this from any airline I’ve used before. Even booking a reserved seat was precise.

Outward: £2.99

Inward : £3.00.

All I can think of is that a very zealous accountant had found out the cost per mile of the flight and divided up the cost by the number of seats on the aircraft.

Or maybe they are trying to fool us into thinking they care about the cost to poor downtrodden passengers.

What do you think?

Booked

A holiday.

Last year we were unable to book a holiday in Greece due to the fact that the children had kids of their own and weren’t sure whether to come or not. However, eventually the die was cast and we booked a holiday in the Algarve in Portugal. (I’m sure you’re bored witless by now. Sorry). The Villa we booked looked idyllic. Nothing could be further from the truth. Basically it had been shut up at the end of the last season and reopened for us.

It had everything we had expected. NOT.

Cockroaches, broken lighting, filthy, pool furniture broken, outdoor Jacuzzi not working, and a barbecue that was just never to be cooked on.

We complained.

We did actually get a very good transfer to a spacious villa on what was known as “Millionaire's ridge”.

Sounds good.

The problem with the Algarve compared with Greece, is that there seem to be no facilities outside the major towns. In Greece, every little village has a smattering of Tavernas and a village shop. In the Algarve you had to drive if you just wanted a beer.

I’ve just booked a villa in Greece.

Do you think this will do?

We hadn’t expected to be able to book up a Villa with the company we used, at such a later date, but found that there was a new 6 bed villa available. (only 6 in our party this year). (The kids have spawned more children of Satan this year). An Email was rapidly sent to the MD (who we know) expressing our interest. The reply was shocking.

Wait for it…..

Wait a bit longer…..

We were offered a 12 bed apartment for the same price. Mrs FE has stayed there before, whilst yours truly was sailing the seven seas to pay for it. The pic is above.

When you look at it, it works out at £132 a week per person, for 12. Flights and car hire, food, drinks, etc, excluded. Seems good value to me.

To finish.

I’m not going to tell you where it is. So there. I might want to go back next year.

PS. If you’re a smoker in Greece you can smoke in the bars. They ignore the law completely.

Tobacco control will kill you.

Due to the ongoing war against anything that looks like a tobacco product, then extra deaths will happen. This will be the result of the now started war on E cigs.
