Only in America

Now I wasn’t going to post anything tonight. However I was sent this. It’s an article that’s a few years old, but in my mind, shows that if responsible people (I’m trained on hand guns, SA80, GPMG, 20mm cannon, and Mk48 mini gun. Oh and partial training of the Phalanx CIWS) were allowed to carry guns, we could possibly have less street crime.

AN ACTUAL PERSONAL AD

To the Guy Who Tried to Mug Me In Downtown  Savannah   night before last.

Date: 2010-05-27, 1 :43 a.m. E.S.T.

I was the guy wearing the black Burberry jacket that you demanded that I hand over, shortly after you pulled the knife on me and my girlfriend, threatening our lives. You also asked for my girlfriend's purse and earrings. I can only hope that you somehow come across this rather important message.

First, I'd like to apologize for your embarrassment; I didn't expect you to actually crap in your pants when I drew my pistol after you took my jacket. The evening was not that cold, and I was wearing the jacket for a reason. My girlfriend had just bought me that Kimber Model 1911 ...45 ACP pistol for my birthday, and we had picked up a shoulder holster for it that very evening. Obviously you agree that it is a very intimidating weapon when pointed at your head ... isn't it?!

I know it probably wasn't fun walking back to wherever you'd come from with that brown sludge in your pants. I'm sure it was even worse walking bare-footed since I made you leave your shoes, cell phone, and wallet with me. That prevented you from calling or running to your buddies to come help mug us again.

After I called your mother or "Momma" as you had her listed in your cell, I explained the entire episode of what you'd done. Then I went and filled up my gas tank as well as those of four other people in the gas station, -- on your credit card. The guy with the big motor home took 150 gallons and was extremely grateful!

I gave your shoes to a homeless guy outside Vinnie Van Go Go's, along with all the cash in your wallet. [That made his day!]

I then threw your wallet into the big pink "pimp mobile" that was parked at the curb ... after I broke the windshield and side window and keyed the entire driver's side of the car.

Later, I called a bunch of phone sex numbers from your cell phone. Ma Bell just now shut down the line, although I only used the phone for a little over a day now, so what 's going on with that? Earlier, I managed to get in two threatening phone calls to the DA's office and one to the FBI, while mentioning President Obama as my possible target.

The FBI guy seemed really intense and we had a nice long chat (I guess while he traced your number etc.).

In a way, perhaps I should apologize for not killing you, but I feel this type of retribution is a far more appropriate punishment for your threatened crime. I wish you well as you try to sort through some of these rather immediate pressing issues, and can only hope that you have the opportunity to reflect upon, and perhaps reconsider, the career path you've chosen to pursue in life. Remember, next time you might not be so lucky. Have a good day!

Thoughtfully yours,

Alex

If muggers didn’t know whether someone was armed or not, and the law was changed to actually support the defendant, we would have two outcomes. Less muggings and more cemeteries.

Just a thought.

Don’t forget Guns are just nice assembled metal structures. It’s people who kill people.

  1. Over this side of the pond in a similar scenario, a(n unarmed) citizen, attempting to carry out a Citizen's Arrest, would himself probably get arrested, for violating the 'Human Rights' of the villain.

  2. If this is true he has willingly commited and confessed to a number of crimes.
In exchage for being safe from muggers you might find yourself with bullet holes from assorted others - angry spouse/son / brother. Road rage or drunks oiutside pubs etc.

    Are you serious?

I, like FE, was trained with multiple weapons (L1A1, Browning HP, Sig P226, GPMG,..) and so am not a hoplophobe, it's a tool, like a knife, nothing more.

I follow the actual results of 'shall issue' permits spreading across in the US and guess what? There aren't rivers of blood, there aren't multiple murders of spouses and surprisingly no road-rage bloodbaths. All were predicted, none occurred. What did occur is a reduction in crime across the board.

I, at a party with many and varied friends and acquaintances, asked a question. 'If you had open and legal access and possession of a firearm would you act responsibly, appropriately and safely?' - the answer? A universal yes, of course I'm trustworthy.

I then asked 'would you trust your neighbour/colleague to act responsibly with a firearm'. The answer? A universal no.

Demonstrable hypocrisy (I'm trustworthy but no one else is) and projection (I fear in a rage I might misuse it, not that I'll admit it, so therefore I think everyone will).

Here's the thing. A firearm allows those least able to protect themselves (the small, weak, old or disabled) the ability to do just that. Whilst I, as a 6' 5" man, have some chance to defend myself if attacked would a 5' woman? No, the only item which allows her to face an attacker on an equal footing is a firearm. So you insist she has no access and remains at the mercy of those bigger, stronger, and probably armed to boot (since they are already willing to ignore laws, what's one more).

This mindset makes you a contributor in every crime of rape, assault, murder and robbery committed against someone who could have defended themselves.

Oh, and for the record, road-rage attacks have fallen as well (whilst rising here in 'safe' UK). Why? Would you attack a random person if there was a possibility they were armed?

"An armed society is a polite society"

(I always try to understand facts as well as engaging my brain before I type a comment, you should try it!)

  4. It may be just show biz but don't the cops in the 'Cops' program get nervous and very active when the word 'gun' is mentioned.
And women never shoot people in rage /jelousy?
