It never rains but it pours

Oh Bugger

I think a trip to the Doctor’s is on the cards.

I’ve spent the last few days in discomfort. Now I think I know why.

The most common symptom of a stomach ulcer is a burning pain…

Check

In particular this occurs at night towards the morning hours as this is when you are most likely to have no food in your stomach.

Check

Additionally, stomach ulcer symptoms frequently come and go.

Check. Happened briefly on holiday

Other Symptoms of Peptic Ulcers

If a stomach ulcer becomes sufficiently advanced, other symptoms may develop. These can include:

  • Dark, black or red stool (indicating blood in the stool) Haven't dared look.
  • Nausea or loss of appetite have been feeling sick as a dog for the last four days. My stomach didn’t ask for food.
  • Fatigue or weakness (due to anaemia from blood loss). This is more prevalent in women than men. I’ve been permanently tired.
  • Weight loss I’ve had to make a new hole in my belt.
  • Vomiting of blood (typically black; think of the colour of a scab) Nope.

Oh well. I must take the rough with the smooth (Groans in agony)(Just kidding), I’m not getting any younger.

  1. Chin up, it could just be excess acid. Oddly peptic ulcer may be the better outcome - they can zap 'em with pills these days.

  4. Similar to symptoms of (my) hiatus hernia, except for the sickness part - perhaps you have two conditions needing separate treatment?

Unconnected - do you know if Denton Pumps is still going?

  5. Sorry to learn about this FE .. on top of everything else ..

Get thee to the Sick Bay .. if it is a Hiatus Hernia or possibly Reflux Oesophagitis, its easily treated ..

On t'other hand, given all that you've been through of late, it might just be stress related ..

Whatever the cause, I wish you well .. but don't delay a visit to the Quack .. Eh ?

    PS .. Happy Trafalgar Day .. ;)

  8. FE, I hope it's nothing more than stress, what with other things going on in your life. Best wishes.

  9. I used to be plagued by ulcers - Zantac helped a lot and so did a high carb diet - pasta, mashed spud, etc.

The generic of Zantac is called Ranitidine(among others) which is still prescription-only. If you can't get a Scrip, then a useful holding action can be effected by, believe it or not, Horlicks tablets!

Good luck with it - I found at times that I had to force myself to eat, albeit the blandest possible food.
