Dear David.

Mr Cameron. This is why your big society won’t work.

A MASSIVE village litter pick has been binned after organisers were swamped by red tape.

The planned community event to celebrate World Environment Day in Otford was scuppered by health and safety issues.

Villagers were lined up to clean the recreation ground on Sunday, but their plans were cut short after the parish council's insurance providers, AON Corporation, insisted every participant would need a high-visibility jacket, protective gloves and a litter-picking claw.

What I can’t understand is that it’s in the recreation ground, so why are Hi vis  jackets required?

And why the need for this?

They also insisted that among the volunteers one should be a trained first aider with a mobile phone in case of emergency.

Does this mean that the lone early morning dog walker will have to have first aid training?

And the usual claptrap from the Righteous.

A spokesman for AON said: "The list of requirements for an event of this nature is extensive but necessary.

"It is for the safety of participants that we make these requests, however stringent they may be, and therefore they must be adhered to."

Now if I’d been the villagers I would have gone ahead anyway. I’ve not heard yet that there is an offence  of “Illegal litter picking”, or “Failure to display a high visibility jacket”

I might be wrong.

Our Police State.

Thanks to Julia over at Ambush Predator for this one.

A woman has told how she was left “stunned” when her boss was contacted by vice squad officers after her car was seen in Bradford’s red light area.

Anne-Marie Carroll, 45, who is a member of the Bradford Catholic Players, was on her way to the group’s rehearsal rooms in Rebecca Street, driving alone in a company car, which was noted by officers investigating kerb crawling.

Of course she got a grovelling letter of apology from the Police.

Err No.

Supt Williams said: “We make no apology for the robust way in that we tackle the issue of kerb crawling in Bradford.

“This particular tactic to target the men who solicit women has been used for a number of years in the city and with notable success.

“The letters are sent out following detailed observations of a vehicle’s movements and the registered owner is contacted whether it is an individual or a business.

Another case of presumed guilty until you prove you’re innocent.

Don’t even think about buying property in Wales.

ciggie

Not if your a smoker.

Dr Tony Jewell, chief medical officer for Wales, said that stopping people lighting up in their own homes would protect their children from the dangers of passive smoking.

and.

'It could be seen as the final piece of the protection picture or at least adding to the growing public consensus on the social acceptability of smoking.'

I suspect they will do one of those surveys in Wales in the near future. One of those that is phrased like this.

“Should smoking be banned in homes for the sake of the cheeeldren?”

Of course they’ll get an 80% yes vote for that.

So then they’ll produce a law which they won’t have a hope in hell of enforcing.

I don’t live in Wales but if I did I’d just love a state sponsored, No smoking enforcement officer, to just try it on. It is my property and it is nothing to do with the state with what I do within it within reason. (Obviously murder is slightly over the top).

What has become of this country?

I need to sit down in a darkened room.

With a cigarette.

Thanks to the Angry Exile for this

Peer of the Realm assaulted at Copenhagen

It would appear that the the Danish Police have been particularly intolerant of dissenters to the great Climategate scam.

Viscount Monkton tells his story of how he was mistreated.

Outside, in the real world, it was snowing, and a foretaste of the Brave New World being cooked up by “world leaders” in their fantasy-land was already evident. Some 20,000 observers from non-governmental organizations – nearly all of them true-believing Green groups funded by taxpayers – had been accredited to the conference.

However, without warning the UN had capriciously decided that all but 300 of them were to be excluded from the conference today, and all but 90 would be excluded on the final day.

Of course, this being the inept UN, no one had bothered to notify those of the NGOs that were not true-believers in the UN’s camp. So Senator Steve Fielding of Australia and I turned up with a few dozen other delegates, to be left standing in the cold for a couple of hours while the UN laboriously worked out what to do with us.

In the end, they decided to turn us away, which they did with an ill grace and in a bad-tempered manner. As soon as the decision was final, the Danish police moved in. One of them began the now familiar technique of manhandling me, in the same fashion as one of his colleagues had done the previous day.
It is a scenario that would have made the Hitler Youth and the Stazi proud.

More Statist spying to come. How smart.

Every British home is to be issued with a ‘smart’ meter which calculates how much gas or electricity is used each time an appliance is switched on.

Families will also know how much they are spending minute-by-minute.

Jobsworth alert, Ducky

It's about time this sort of thing stopped.

A mother has been fined £75 for feeding ducks in a park with her toddler son.

Vanessa Kelly had taken 17-month-old Harry on his weekly visit to the to feed ducks when she was approached by a council warden.

The reason being given that it would attract vermin. It certainly did that.

The Stazi would be proud

Another jumped up little Hitler trying to show who's the boss.

Will they start arresting commuters, running for their trains next?
Completely over the top.
