Unsolicited Solar panels

solar panel

Today I received an unsolicited phone call from a company implying that they were working with  the government. (A quick google search debunked that). Anyway. Would you guess it, they were trying to sell me solar panels for my roof. After painfully listening to the prepared spiel, I asked for some hard economics. And this is what I got.

Cost: Mumbled about not really knowing till my location was inspected by their team of Salesmen Engineers. Even when I gave her rough dimensions of my south facing roof and the fact it was three stories up.

Maintenance: Very upbeat. “Absolutely maintenance free sir”. When I asked about cleaning the panels, and inverter through life costs, the other end of the phone line became very quiet.

Conclusion: I politely asked of her name and the details of the company she worked for. However when I informed her that I’d signed up for the Telephone preference service, and I would be informing Ofcom and Trading standards of their breach of the law, the last thing I heard was the equivalent of a Climate scientist sliding down a red hot hockey stick. A sizzling dial tone.

  1. Another way to handle these Home-Improvement cold-callers is to sound enthusiastic, invite them to survey your property, and, get a definite timed appointment.

Obviously the address & post code you give them has a minor, but significant error in it......

  2. "From a company implying that they were working with the government"

That would be this outfit: http://www.skyline-solar.co.uk/

They called me about 10 days ago. Like you, we're registered with the TPS, and I rang them to pass on this firms details.

I didn't even bother to listen to their spiel...

  3. I actually like to listen to their spiel. I make out that I'm interested and when they are finished question them on their assertions. I have done quite a lot of research in this field. Especially as I have a mole in the wind industry.

  4. My son received an unsolicited phone call from an outfit wanting him to change his phone from BT. The call went something like this:-

    Son: “Sorry - I don’t have a phone.”
Caller: “What – you don’t have a phone in the house?”
Son: “No – I never use phones – too much hassle.”
Caller: “...So you don’t have a landline – you’re not with BT?”
    Son: “No – I don’t have a mobile or a landline. I don’t have a phone at all.”
    Caller: “Er...er...” Click

  5. I probably would have listened if they had called at a better time, but I had just finished my tea, and wasn't in the mood. In any case I was angry that they ignored our wishes not to be pestered by cold calling...

And as for "Moles" I just wish some of the destructive little fuckers would dig under the base of a few turbines, and topple them over....

  6. There are features that allow you to keep track of vendors that you like and keep
notes so you know why they are listed. 5. This is not always something that brides or grooms have time to put together on their own.

  7. This is usually considered a fun and effective learning method in general.
Instead, focus on a single thing or just a couple of things,
and try not to move forward until you have reached
those goals. Pretend that we are palming an egg and
keep your arms relaxed and fingers curled.
