The largest craft that the dock was designed for is the LCU (Landing Craft Utility) Mk 10 which is 29.74 m long, has a beam of 7.39 m, a draught of 1.7 m and displaces 240 tons.
The dock can also accommodate two smaller LCVP landing craft. I personally have sailed from RFA Mounts Bay's dock in a small pleasure boat from Fowey in Cornwall. It was the only way I could leave the ship on time at the end of my appointment!

  3. I had the pleasure to be aboard the target towing ship HMS Devonshire durIng exercise Sally Forth in the early 70s. The target was a large wooden barge with a canvas sheet on it. The finale of the show was a strafing run by an F4 Phantom mounting no fewer than 5 podded 20 mm gatlings. After an extraordinary howling sound from all five guns, the target simply disappeared. Completely.
