That poll.

Just under a week ago I reported on a poll I had up in my side bar.

It asked a simple question.

Do you want to quit smoking?

Since then the overwhelming consensus (Now I’m starting to sound like a Global warming alarmist), has been the almost exact reverse of the so called findings by the Tobacco Control Industry.

The poll maybe somewhat biased, due to the fact that in my left hand side bar I’ve a large smiley with the word “Smoker” emblazoned across it. Maybe  my loyal reader (Hi whoever you are) doesn’t want to upset me.

However as far as I’m concerned the poll speaks for itself. The majority of smokers who read this blog, don’t want to give up. The no’s vote has actually risen to 86.89%.

So I’m off for a cigarette on the strength of it.

I’ll be taking down the poll in the next few days. So if you want to participate then please do.

  1. With a result like that, it's nearly enough to make those in the Tobacco Control Industry turn to drink.

  2. Unfortunately they've already passed their methodology onto Alcohol concern.

  3. I was on 80 a day but gave up 30 years ago. Instantly. Overnight. Just stopped.

Clearly I was lucky and not addicted and I don't want a medal. I just think 'your body, your choice' and nobody has the right to tell you what to do (especially self righteous pricks like me!)

    1. You were neither lucky nor addicted - you just wanted (I mean really, genuinely wanted) to stop smoking, and so you did. I've known several people who have done exactly the same.

Smoking is not an addiction, it's a habit, and the reason people generally find it difficult to quit is because they enjoy it and don't really want to give it up. They are put under intense pressure by the anti-smoking lobby to quit (by way of their multiple lies and exaggerations and the accompanying punitive taxes), but deep down, they don't really want to quit.

Those people have a hard time stopping smoking, and when, by sheer force of will-power they do stop, they tend to become virulent anti-smokers themselves.

The people who stop because, for whatever reason, they actually don't want to smoke any more do so without effort, and are generally tolerant of those who wish to continue smoking.
