Your house must be green. Or else.

The Scenario. It’s the dead of winter and your old central heating boiler breaks down and cannot be repaired. In the normal scheme of things, you’d get a couple of quotes and give the job of replacing it to the company who could carry out the replacement, quickest and cheapest.

Whilst you sit shivering, you are informed by the winner that you will have to wait to be assessed by the council to see if your house comes up to a standard of insulation.

The new regulations, which will apply to specified home improvements including loft and garage conversions, conservatory extensions, and boiler or window replacements, could come into effect as early as October when the Green Deal is set to be officially launched.

Well I for one will tell the contractor to either get round sharpish or bugger off or I will employ someone else.

As far as I’m concerned it is nothing to do with government how I run my home. It’s my bought and paid for abode to do with as I choose. If I want to be less green than Caroline Lucas, then it’s up to me.

I have a nagging suspicion the government is trying to cover up the fact that this government and the last have realised that there is going to be an energy shortage in the next few years. I think it may have settled into their brains (small) that all this green investment in bird mincers and photovoltaic panels, will leave us set for blackouts in the not so distant future.

In the dash for green they haven't stopped to realise that we need new power stations that can back up supply when the wind doesn’t blow or the sun shines. And they have to be ordered years ahead.

  1. No they are simply implementing an EU 'directive' and of course naturally gold plating it instead of simply rubber stamping it to give out the impression that Westmonster trumps Brussels when the truth is Westmonster IS Brussels but this time they may have shot themselves in the foot as it is attracting widespread condemnation from a myriad of different interests.

    False flag coming?

  2. Yes I realise it's a UK directive. But our government always enforces every directive over zelously. We in the Uk should say yes, and do what the French do. Ignore it.

  3. Well it looks like time to recommission the coal cellar and grates. It can hold well over a ton of coal and combined with the wood burning stove will be a big "UP YOUR'S" to the Green Stasi!

    TTFN :)

  4. We have one of the most educationally qualified Governments of all time, many having benefited from the ‘very best’ schools and universities. Despite a massive financial investment in their educations essential ingredients such as understanding and commonsense were ignored when their academic degrees were awarded.
Had Government (maybe they did) set up a department for pissing people off they could have come out with very few more disastrous regulations than we have seen in recent years.
This is yet another clear example of a truly incompetent elite pushing for even more destructive control over the lives of their ‘subjects’.

  5. Saw this in the Mail and just knew it wouldnt work. The simple fact is that all the numbnuts who would believe the moon was made of cheese
if told have already signed up for the existing subsidised insulation programmes. Those that are left are the hard nose bastards who wouldnt let a local authority bod anywhere near there property for any reason.
If your boiler breaks and they wont approve a replacement simply revert to a lovely coal fired back boiler.Either that or get family friend plumber to do it for cash and tell the green deal to stick it up their exhaust pipe.

  6. Captain Swing wrote " existing subsidised insulation programmes. Those that are left are the hard nose bastards who wouldnt let a local authority bod anywhere near there property for any reason."

    It's not quite that simple.
Some of us are not 'suitable' for subsidised insulation programmes!
I'm not hard nosed I simply don't have enough headroom in my loft. The insulation task-force would have to bend their backs.

  7. I like the recent story on your side o the pond about the lady who got told to find a different doctor's office[after she'd apparently chewed on someone for being an incompetent ass IIRC] that her "carbon footprint" was too big due to her two mile drive from her house to the clinic. *headdesk* It's a pity your guns got taken away over there. Because by now you could have summarily shot the entire fucking government as a warning to the next 10 or 20 generations. "Leave us the fuck alone...violators WILL be killed"

  8. "And they have to be ordered years ahead"

Psssst - wanna cheap nuclear power station? Those nice
    Ruskies can help...
